Delfin Visual Identity

The Delfin Bicycle Self-Help Workshop is a small nonprofit that has been operating in Halle’s Volkspark since around 2022. Here, all members contribute as much as they can at any given time. This allows us to open our doors once a week for four to six hours to people who want to work on their own bikes but have limited space to do so. Or for people with limited financial means who still need help repairing their bikes.
Over time, it has become clear that the workshop at Volkspark is hard to find and that the Telegram channel, as our only means of communication, isn’t enough. Additionally, membership numbers seem to be declining. This reinforced the idea of creating a “visual identity” for Delfin.
The result is signage for indoor and outdoor orientation, a website, and stickers. The design draws on the workshop’s “grungy” vibe: nothing is ever perfectly neat or clean.
A central element is therefore the greasy old bicycle chain. It served as the inspiration for a typeface used on signs and in other applications. The custom-designed display font is complemented by a “blurry” version of Arial, which is used for longer texts.
The “visual identity” is not intended to take center stage for the association or the workshop, but rather to support them and serve as something with which current and future members can identify.
